Mid-century modern, also known as Miami Modern or MiMo

Mid-century modern, also known as Miami Modern or MiMo, sprang from a Post World War II building boom of exuberance that lasted nearly three decades from 1945-1972. Some described it as it lighthearted kitche, pop delirium or even doo-wop. Whatever the fanciful description, the tropical architectural detailing was often characterized by delta wings, fins, boomerangs, wildly cantered glass, sweeping and soaring concrete walls, extreme cantilevered roofs, stretched jet age arches, floating staircases, brise soleils and bean poles. - Credit BTHP

Domestic Lifeforms Rocks

Domestic Lifeforms restored two structures in the fort lauderdale area that blew my mind. One was a rundown duplex that was turned into a great loft-type space and the other was a mid-century modern gem that was restored with most of the original charm intact including restored terrazzo floors. www.domesticlifeforms.com. They have not done any projects since completing these.

It is most likely because the real estate market is so slow around here these days. There are great houses in our neighborhood under $300,000 that are mid-century modern gems.

Art Show at DWR in Coral Gables
I was lucky enough to have a friend Alison Brungart - www.alisonbrungart.com host a show for my paintings at Design Within Reach in Miami. At first I wasn't sure how the art would look with the furniture but it worked out great and I sold out the show over the next few weeks.

Very First Post - Our House
Welcome to my Florida Modern Blog. This is my first blog so be patient. My girlfriend and I live in Fort Lauderdale, FL and love everything modern. Here are a few images of our house. It was built in the early 60's and we are restoring it to its original glory. It was designed and built by the same development group that built the Yankee Clipper on Fort Lauderdale Beach.
